On Saturday, Feb. 5, the LEE Darling Driller and Royal Ruby dance teams competed in the CP Dance Competition in Seguin. The Royal Rubies placed 1st for their jazz routine, 2nd in their game day and kick routines, and 3rd on their pom routine, as well as receiving special awards including crowd pleasers for their pom routine, high point award for their jazz routine, and the Ava High Platinum Solo award.
The Darling Drillers earned 1st place in their military routine, 2nd in their pom routine, and 3rd in their jazz routine while additionally receiving the title of Second Place Grand Champion Team.
During the dance competition, students from San Antonio prepared routines, such as jazz and pom comps, to compete within the individual categories.
They make it look easy, but the amount of work these students put into their routines and their shows is an impressive feat on its own.
“Starting in September, they started learning their dances,” Ms. Cristina Alanis said. “They would come in on Saturdays, after school, and mornings, and we liked to prepare way ahead of time.”
Despite all of the hours and work that dance requires, the students who participate in dance gain a life’s worth of memories and experiences that will be with them for life. It helps them develop as individuals and as a team and teaches them skills that they will use in all of their future endeavors.
“You learn a lot within a short amount of time, and you just have to really go home and study it so when you come back you feel prepared not just for yourself but for your team as well,” Darling Driller Captain Jaqueline Brown said.
The next dance competition is this Saturday at Sandra Day O’Connor High School at 11 AM. Come and show your support and school spirit while also getting to watch these amazing dancers in action.
