The LEE Varsity Soccer Team competed against Del Valle Highschool during the Area Playoffs on Tuesday, Mar. 24, at Comolander Stadium at 7 p.m. They won three to zero, and were able to keep their so-far undefeated record.
There was a lot of hype leading up to the game, and it was not unfounded. The game was intense for all involved, especially since it has been a while since they’ve made it this far into playoffs.
“It was really fun, I feel like the game was really intense, and the energy for both teams was really high,” Team Manager and ISA Junior, Kimberly Mendoza said.
Even though the game was a success, coaches and players alike agree that it was not their strongest game, and there was a lot of area for growth.
“I didn’t feel like we played our game,” Coach David Rogers said. “We still ended up winning three to zero, and I felt like we dominated the match, but I feel like we could play a lot better possession…It’s a good sign when you play bad and you still win.”
While the style and play could have been better, several players gave it all and left it on the field, and were a large part of this success.
“One of the Freshman, Angel Pena, he was able to get up there and score a really nice goal to give us the momentum and kind of lead into goal scoring opportunities,” STEM Junior, Matteo Lessner said. “Brayden[Braun], he was the one to score the next two, and he had a really great second finish.”
Overall, the game was successful and was a great show of the skills and talent of the Varsity team.
Their next game is The Regional Semifinals this Friday, Mar. 27, at Farris Stadium. They will be playing against the Cibolo Steele Knight starting at 7 p.m. Come support the team, show school spirit, and be witness to a match that’s sure to make the books.
