Friday Night football games are an important part of the high school experience. They’re a place where you can spend time with your friends outside of school, show school spirit, and just have fun. This is not just because of the football team, for the experience is amplified by all of the different spirit groups that attend to support the football team.
The LEE Band and Lee-ettes are the primary groups, and ROTC and Student Council are also there, and altogether they create a lively community of fun. Each of these groups performs and attends at the games, although each of them have their own performances and competitions to practice for.
Then there’s the Lee-etts. Many people often confuse the different “Lee-etts” with one another. If you didn’t know, the Lee-etts include the dance, drill, cheer, and pep squads. While they all work together and support one another, each group is unique in its own way. The dance and drill teams, in particular, are the ones most commonly mixed up.
The dance team serves as the varsity team, while the drill team represents the junior varsity. Both are led by Ms. Christina Alanis, who guides the teams with dedication and passion, helping every member reach their full potential. The varsity team is known as the Royal Rubies, and the JV team is called the Darling Drillers; different names, but one united family.
The Royal Rudies are practiced 5 times a week, Monday through Friday, every morning, throughout the entire school year. They are dedicated to the course, bringing spirit and presence with everything they do.
Darling Drillers practices after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and every school day during the drill class period. Both of these groups work so hard, and it shows in the way that they perform and in the way they act throughout their lives.
The LEE Band is truly a sight to see. The members work hard, typically practicing four times a week for about three hours each practice. October is their busiest month, known among them as Band-tober, when all of their competitions take place. They perform at all of the Friday Night Varsity Football games, and on top of that, they compete in a different competition every Saturday. Their dedication and passion shine through in everything they do. The directors are Mr. Alex Yanez, Ms. Victoria Watson, and Mr. Bryce Roddenberry
