This Saturday, NESA Creative Writing is putting a twist on a Saturday night TV classic. Inspired by Saturday Night Live (SNL), students have created Legacy Night Live (LNL), a live comedy sketch show that brings together performers, writers, and tech crews from across the LEE campus: NESA, STEM, ISA, and LEE. The show, which aims to stay true to the format of SNL, includes student-written sketches and a parody news segment titled, “LEEkend Update.”
Once the ideas were pitched, things started to move quickly. They talked to all the different departments, and formulated a plan for a brilliant new show.
“Its been a really cool experience to try and do a new format of performance with the kids and see what kind of ideas they can come up with in this short amount of time,” ACT Theater Director, Ms. Korth-Piles said. “We’ve had a lot of laughs, a lot of imagination and the kids are really excited to put on the show.”
What makes LNL even more special is that it’s not just a one-department or one-program event, it’s a collaboration. “NESA, STEM, ISA, and Lee students are all involved in this,” Charney said. “It’s the first major school collaboration that we’ve had.”
Students have taken the lead on everything from writing to performing sketches. It’s a unique opportunity for students from different programs. Many of whom might never work together otherwise; to share a stage and create something unique.
“Normally we work with the other NESA majors, so we just have like that community there, so working with ACT is like we’re uniting more of the school which is really interesting.” Senior Creative Writing Major Tobias Clemente-Golando said.
Legacy Night Live takes the stage this Saturday in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the door, but it’s encouraged to buy them ahead of time through NESA BookTix to guarantee a spot.
Whether you’re into comedy, theatre, or just want to see your classmates’ sketches, Legacy Night Live is shaping up to be a fun and memorable night.
