In the past, stores around the US have been known for setting out holiday decorations months before the actual holiday, and the same is true for this year. This has been seen with mixed
The popular opinion is that this is far too early for stores to be selling products for the holidays. There are actually multiple reasons that most stores seem to have items for holidays way before the date of the holiday.
In some cases the reason is that these stores want to maximize product profit from consumers. They figure that this will work since the items are out for longer, and therefore available for longer.
In other cases, stores simply put said seasonal items out earlier and at a cheaper price in order to help advance consumers and the general public into the holiday.
When asked about his particular opinion on this topic, STEM Junior, Reed Mullet, claims that while the early sale of the seasonal items does make him feel like the items are out of place, the sale does tend to get Mullet more excited for the holiday. “It is a little confusing, because who is buying those things that early? But it does lowkey get me more excited and it gets me in the mood for the holiday.” Mullet said.
With holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up relatively soon in the year, it isn’t uncommon to run into multiple holidays’ decor being sold at stores. Within retail, this is known as “Christmas Creep”. In the sense that Christmas, and other holidays just like this, tend to “creep” up on the shoppers, as the products suddenly pop up in stores.
As we get slowly closer to this years’ series of holidays, be sure to be on the watch for holiday themed products, don’t let the “Christmas Creep” creep upon you.
