The LEE Volunteers boys varsity baseball season is officially underway and it has brought a renewed sense of optimism to both the players and the campus. While there is a fresh sense of hope in the air, the Vols have not had a winning season in over 20 years.
After a rough past five seasons (their best season closing with 8-18 back in 2023), the Vols are looking to shake up the scene in San Antonio this year, and they might be on track. They have started the season with 1-1 in their first two matchups.
When team captain Dylan Garza was asked about what he’s looking forward to the most the season he responded, “Having a very strong and confident team and hopefully getting a third or fourth spot [in district] to make playoffs. The team is a lot stronger this year as a whole compared to past years.”
When questioned about if the Vols had what it takes to have a winning season this year, junior Zachary Talamantes said “Yeah, we have all the pieces in motion this year…we have pitching, we have offense, and we have defense, so I feel like we could make a run this year.”
The optimism from the players serves as a hopeful sign. The Vols will host their next game against the Brackenridge Eagles at the North East Sports Park Monday Feb. 17 at 5:00 p.m., so make sure to come out and support your Vols baseball!
