The LEE Vols boys varsity soccer team has held steady through the 24-25 season with its impressive 6-0 standing and only one conceded goal across all games. This week though, the Vols head into what could be the hardest game of their season.
On the evening of Friday, January 17, the boys will go head to head against Central Catholic High School, the number one ranked team in the state according to Max-Preps.
While both teams remain undefeated, Central Catholic’s record is slightly better with a 7-0-2 standing. However, they have also only conceded one goal this season.
When asked about the team’s optimism going into the Central Catholic game, team captain Reid Brenner said “It’s a big game…but we’re confident, everyone’s excited, and we’re ready.” Brenner also added that the Vols defense has been “solid enough” throughout the season to stop any offense, even from the top team in the state.
This year’s varsity starting lineup is arguably their most impressive since their state championship winning season in 2021 and their 8-0 start in the 2022-2023 season. The Vols defense has only given up one goal across their six games – the lowest per-game percentage in school history.
When team manager Jeronimo Arias-Gaviria was questioned about his confidence level of the team he said that he was “very confident” in the team’s abilities this season. “We know we’re the best,” said Arias-Gariva proudly, adding that this was “without a doubt” the most skilled Vols soccer team he’s been a part of during his time here.
This says a lot, considering that Arias-Gaviria was also a part of the 2022-2023 season, where the Vols went undefeated until their loss in the state semifinals (23-1-3).
All the team’s confidence and hard work is set to be on display this Friday, so make sure to show up to support the team at Central Catholic High School field at 7 pm Go Vols!
