This year’s annual Golden Globes, held January 7, 2024, came to honor our best films once again. While many were happy to tune in to this exciting award season, it has quickly become a hot topic not only around the winners but also this year’s host , Jo Koy.
While I could center this around those best dressed and the well deserved awards, the gossip of the evening was the poor punchlines and ran over jokes told by Koy. This included misogynistic comments about Barbie, proving yet another man missed the premise of the movie. “Barbie is based on a plastic doll with big boobies,” said Koy, comparing it to the co-release Oppenheimer.
With more odd jokes, including a jab towards Taylor Swift, he managed to upset the in person crowd and the home audiences in just one sitting. Later on “I’m Just Ken” performed by Ryan Gosling won best song. Gossling himself was shocked as he received the award considering the other nominations including Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For.” This honestly further illustrates the point of Barbie considering the irony of the song and other nominees.
