The Vols are up and giving their best!
It’s official that the basketball season has already started off with a bang. In their recent game, the Volunteers played against Johnson High School on Tuesday, January 8, at the LEE gym.
The JV game was overall in favor for the Volunteers leading to a 53-36 win against the Jaguares.
When Varsity took the court, they dominated in only first five minutes. In the end, the Volunteers had a big game, winning in double overtime with a final score of 65-61. “We were fortunate on a few Johnson mistakes, but our kids were able to capitalize on those mistakes and made a bunch of winning plays down the stretch and we made free throws to secure the win,” Head Coach Ryan Taplin said.
The expectations for the rest of the season are high. The Vol’s current ranking in district is 5-2, putting them in 3rd place. “Our expectations are to win playoff games,” Coach Taplin said. “We have talked a lot about our desire to still be practicing in March. That’s been our goal from day one. We not only want to get into the playoffs again like we did two years ago, but we want to win multiple playoff games and advance as far as we can.”
The Volunteers play their next game at Churchill on January 12.
