The new biographical drama film “Priscilla” written, and directed by Sofia Coppola, who is known for other great movies like Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoniette. Once again she did a great job in this movie, by making every detail feel meaningful for the audience. It was an emotionally complex experience.
“Priscilla” is based on the book “Elvis and Me” written by Priscilla Presley ,which is about “Pricilla’s” life when she met Elvis. It’s sad to believe that this movie was based on a true story, but it was still very enjoyable to watch and see things from priscilla’s point of view.
I thought this was a very meaningful movie for the audience since it included the reality of how things were in the 60s, women would do everything to make men happy It didn’t matter to anyone that Priscilla had to leave her home or that she was dating someone who was 21 when she was only 14 (a freshman in high school). It must have been hard for her having to go through all of that at such a young age and you can see more details of it in the movie.
She mentioned in an interview that she was mentally more mature than other girls at that age. It was something we saw at the movie, which I found very impactful to see how strong she was at such a young age.
At the end of the movie it was good to see that Priscilla finally thought of herself, and what was good for her. At the very end of the movie we see when she had to leave to find herself. She never stopped loving Elvis, but she had to leave to figure things out, and on top of everything she couldn’t keep seeing the way that Elvis was living.
It was very hard to believe that someone else was playing Priscilla in the movie, since “Cailee Spaeny” gave such an incredible performance, she did a great job playing priscilla. I’ll say she was definitely the perfect person to play this character.
Let’s talk about the great job that Coppola did with the fashion and all the outfits in this movie. The actress who played Priscilla, “Cailee Spaeny” wore a lot of similar outfits that Priscilla wore back in the 60s when she met Elvis.I personally I loved all the outfits she wore, I thought they were all very original and very similar to the coquette style of the time period. especially her big and black hair and her makeup. The classic priscilla big eyeliner, both were definitely a big distraction since it was gorgeous.
I liked to see how through the years her style changed, Elvis was a big factor why Priscilla’s style changed so much like her hair color and the big amount of makeup was because of how Elvis wanted her to look, so, of course she changed it. I loved all the outfits she wore, especially her big and black hair and her makeup.
If you love Sofia Coppola, the 60s (style music, movies), the coquette style, or just love Elvis, but you would like to see a different perspective of the story then this movie was made for you to watch.
